Dispatch #39: An entirely unconventional review by a lady who lives in pretty consistent sensory overwhelm & applies colors & textures to ethereal matters such as the act of reading
These reviews were a delight to read! Read my first book by John Banville this year (Snow) and have been debating whether I should add more of his work to my TBR— this confirms it!
I so enjoyed your reviews, Shira. They are one of a kind and a delight to read. I read both The Sea and To The Lighthouse (the latter at least twice) and you make want to return to both to savor them again. I also read a few on your list including Liars and All Fours. I hears Samantha Harvey interviewed on NPR about Orbital and wanted to read it, thanks for underscoring that I should and the Hila Blum novel has also caught my attention but not made it on my TBR list. Intrigued by all your other reads. Thank you for sharing your reading adventure this year.
Some of the most beautiful & unique reviews I’ve encountered!!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Regan, that means so much!

Love love the “body memory” as a means of reviewing 💞

Aw thank you Amy! Since we have some crossover: Are there any books akin to The Sea // To The Lighthouse that you'd recommend?
Hi Shira! Hard to compare Woolf and Banville to anyone but I do love & admire the work of Elizabeth Strout. Here is my 2024 eclectic reading list (part 1) if anything catches your eye:https://open.substack.com/pub/amybrown/p/enchantment-magic-and-meaning-my?r=2l337&utm_medium=ios
Well... you just made my TBR a tad longer.
***pats self on shoulder & gazes into the horizon which is composed entirely of more books***
fascinating framing!!! my to-read list grows
